Ancient city of Nabataen, the South Jordon area is home to a world famous tourist attraction – Petra. Used to be the ancient capital of Nabataen Kingdom since 6th century BC, Petra grew in power until it was subjugated by the Roman Empire in 106 A.C. Became a commercial center since then, Petra flourished until the fateful earthquake destroyed the entire infrastructure of the city in the year 663. Male 1812, Swiss explorer, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, disguised as an Arab scholar, infiltrate Bedouin city and put it back on the world map. After many excavation efforts, Petra has been Jordan's archeological attraction for tourists since 1929. It became world famous when the movie Indian Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed here and in 2007, Petra is considered one of the 7 new wonder of the world.

Petra is an archaeological site in southwestern Jordan, located on the slopes of Mount Hor, in a basin between the mountains that make up the eastern slopes of Arabah (Wadi Araba), a large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It is famous because there are many statues carved on the cliffs.
